The AMERICANS – My First Impression

10 10 2006

Hello people,

Writing after quite long time. As I sit on the sofa with Himesh’s music playing in the background and laptop on my lap, really feel at home. Well something to share about the AMERICANS (a conclusion derived from the people I have met. Of course I may be wrong or incomplete. Well so far, good!! :-) )

First speaking about their attitude (majorly towards job). Well hats off frankly. So carefree people. Do what your instict says. So less of thoughts more of actions. Atleast in the Corporate circles. Work while you work and play while you play. Stick to some timing. Most of Americans vacate office by 4.30 p.m. They do start strictly at arond 7.30 a.m. But they dont over work or at any moment of time seem like stressed out. A casual attitude but serious from within towards work. I found it very motivating. It was just tempting to compare our Indian (@ SISL) workstyle with theirs. We have coffee breaks for around half an hour, lunch break for an hour.  But the funny thing is that, we take such long breaks here too!!! Not critisizing ourselves and I do realize that I am too a part of this system. But still whats kind of inefficient has to be changed at some moment of time. But I do know its not an individuals effort. The whole system from top to bottom has to bring about a modification or else we would still be caught up in things somehow or the other. Also, if we are caught somewhere in work like configuration settings or installation issues,  it would take like a heck of time to get it rectified. But over here, we dont even get to see the person rectifying the problem (ya obviously unless and until its a hardware problem). Everything happens remotely (as over in India) but in a far efficient manner.

One more thing I like is the welcoming nature and coordiality that they show. A simple example, they greet almost each and everyone at office they passby. And trust me or I put it this way, atleast I feel it so good and homely in such an environment. Just  imagine of such a thing over at India, for sure, people would be calling them crazy!!! I feel, its a kind of goodwill that we are spreading. But one thing that lags in them is the emotional attachment for things/people. Its far less I would say as compared to we, Indians.

And the one and only thing I have disliked is food.  Well but thats my problem!!  ;-) Nothing to do with the people. Well thats it for now.

Hope u felt very bored going through this stuff. Well atleast I felt!!! ;-)

May, I mean literally may, write something more interesting in my next blog. :-)
