Additional Autos in Bangalore

15 07 2008

Todays news read “Additional 7000 autos to be introduced on the roads”. Apparently, this is to tackle the problem of increasing number of commuters in Bangalore.

However, I seriously doubt the prospects this action has! A general trend I have observed is Autos are right now concentrated only in areas wherein they feel they get big money! And in other places, they least bother to even have a talk on destination. So, even though more autos are introduced, the situation would more or less remain the same! On the other hand, we can expect more of pollution, traffic and a lot more rash driving!!

Instead, the Government should work on bettering the Bus Infrastructure or bringing in Metros ASAP! God help Bangalore Commuters with the days to come!

Music Composer Pritam - Exposed!

26 06 2008

Thanks to my friend Sanjay who forwarded me the links to the originals of almost all the songs that Bollywood Music Composer Pritam  has composed.

It came to me as one of great shocks after listening to the originals, exact ditto…. thats what I can say right now. Just wanted to share it amongst all so that we get to know more about this artistic composer. However, honestly, I would not like to critisize him for being a fraud in terms of copying compositions. Just think, we would have been left away from these wonderful tracks and melodies, if it was not for Pritam. So, for me, its thanks Pritam, since its his tracks that play mostly on my ipod! :)

Bell the Cat..

24 04 2008

Writing from an experience that I had this morning, when one of the tenants in my building left me aghast with this statement!

The Incident:

The servant, who stays in a house on the roof-top, sprinkles water at the gate entrance everyday morning. But what’s odd about it is that she does it from the roof-top itself! I mean she pours water from roof onto the ground floor entrance. :) And though this is an objectionable thing, no one has ever raised an issue, ‘coz, no one had suffered due to this act. Unfortunately, one of the visitors to the tenants below us, facing the entrance, had to suffer today. His clothes, roped for drying up, apparently got wet! And he was fuming with anger over this. Rushing over to the servants, he raised his objection over their act as a tenant/servant. And on the way down, he stopped to narrate the incident. I consoled him and talked as to how wrong of her to do this and even provided a solution of talking to the owners! But, he was just wondering as to how could none of us have raised an objection so far. Maybe, just because it didn’t effect us so far! In the end, dejectedly, he left stating, “No Ones ready to Bell the Cat“……..

The Opinion:

I think, people, especially in metros and having a busy life, are growing more of uncaring towards others. We are bothered only about our lives. This is evident from the fact that many of us don’t know who our neighbors are, leave apart getting involved with them. Ya, sadly I am too a part of the group. I am not saying go and do social service. But, there should be atleast some kind of involvement with the society at all stages of life! This attitude maybe because of the ‘projected’ hectic life, however, I think we can definitely take some time out to know each other and tackle common problems. We don’t worry about any of the social problems which don’t directly effect us. As a consequence of this incident, I have decided to talk to the servants and raise my concern too.

Atleast, lets start from small things, which we feel, we can do. So, that our small step, can lead to similar such small steps and help reinstate the faith on humanity and help spreading good-will.

Sita Falls, Rama Catches!

24 04 2008

The title of this blog comes in as a comment during our visit to the very beautiful and pleasant Sita falls (Koodlu-theertha) situated in Udupi, Karnataka. 5 of us, Manju, Shanky, Angelo, Deepak and me, visited this place on April 19, 2008. So, jotting down the memorable journey!

Having had home made idlis and sambar followed by really delicious Mangalore buns and tea at Manju’s place, we decided on to visit Sita Falls. Manju had given us a rough idea about the route and distance to trek (approx. 2 km). Having traveled through ‘green’ roads for an hour via Hebri, we reached a river, which an Omni couldn’t have crossed. So, we got down and started off with our trekking. The sun was shining bright and the weather was hot and humid. We had just plain H2O with us! We knew its gonna be a tough path ahead.

We walked and walked and walked a lot (around 3 km.). Sadly there was no signs of a waterfall and we were all tired and drenched in sweat! Manju was greatly on the receiving end for misguiding us with the distance. This was when came up another shocking revelation from him. There was another couple of km’s to go! OMO, we sat down for sometime in the shock, but then gathered on the strength as we saw the path leading to a forest like area. We were happy and realized that atleast the path ahead would be shady one! And it was indeed cool. We came across a small stream, wherein washed our hands and face. The water was so cool, felt like taking a dip into it. Anyway’s, we walked ahead.

Here awaited our bloodsucking friends, the Leeches! Who knew that! Only Manju had a prior confrontation with them. It had rained the previous night, so along with moisture, surfaced these dirty, small animals! Shanky and Angelo were soon their first targets, but we realized it soon and so luckily, they didn’t loose much of the blood. Deepak was the next, followed by Manju. By the end of trip, Deepak had become favorite of Leeches and donated blood, the most!

Finally, with great difficulty, we walked the total distance (around 5 km.) and reached the falls. What a sight! Trust me, hidden from the outer world, its a world in itself. Ya, the place was not big, but within itself, it held a beauty hidden from the rest of the world. Rocks surrounding the beautiful water gushing down the top was a treat to watch! The rocks were slippery; somehow we managed to get under the falls. The water falling from around 40-50 ft. above, on us, left us all shouting in pain and excitement. The ‘indra-dhanush’ too, had come down and surrounded us! We all we made to feel noble at that time.

On enjoying it for sometime, we all settled down for some ‘boys-talk’ under the water. :) Better not ask what! First of all let me make clear, we are all straight! ;) So, some secrets were revealed, some revisited. Overall, we all spent a quality time under the falls. The cold, pleasant water-fall had indeed come up as a relief from the heat and pain of trekking such a long distance. Our extreme efforts did bear sweet fruits at the end!

Then started the return journey, which was relatively easier and less tiresome. The leeches were still out there for welcoming us, however, we walked fast to avoid any such opportunistic attacks! Reached the Omni and all of us laid down flat, everyone tired and exhausted, very hungry and thinking of the good natural food that would be soon made available to us by Manju’s parents!

And so ended our half day trip! It was around 3 years since I had trekked and for the first time visiting a falls. It was fun indeed to be in such a great company and playing around in natures own enclave. The trip has left me only craving for more such expedites and explore the hidden and preserved beauties in the nature………..

Few things that were prominent during the trip :

* “Arey its just half a km from here” — Dialog by Manju for every half a km we used to cover.

* The ‘F’ words which Manju had to hear a lot, especially from Angelo and Shanky, owing to the long distance we had to walk.

* The freaky voices by Angelo and Manju while Leeches were enjoying their blood! I suppose the animals in the forest would have got scared for sure.

* Leeches enjoying everyone’s blood except for me. Though one was successful in getting inside my socks, but poor fellow died a miserable death as I crushed it to ‘chutney’. I felt proud of myself! ;)

* Lots of plastic was seen near the falls! Would like to sincerely plead all the readers not to pollute atleast such a place, so that the place retains a dignity and always makes us feel to revisit!

Overall, it was a very wonderful experience of trekking, getting beneath a water fall for the first time and watching the colorful rainbow descend down, surrounding us amidst natures arms!

A very special thanks to Manju for suggesting the place and motivating us to walk along the whole distance! :)

Ideal Life!

11 03 2008

Many a times, I feel and imagine a world without fear, sense of insecurity, honesty! And trust me, it feels great. I really long for it, however, I do realize its the next to impossible thing that can happen. Anyway’s, life goes on in hope and we shouldn’t stop to dream and hope about a better and happy life. This thought and ultimately the blog comes out of me as a result of an incident I was confronted with.

Ok, let me analyze the situation with likely responses and my ratings. Off-course, I will be speaking on moral grounds ‘coz that’s what I want to exhibit!

Situation: Riding on a bike, you go and hit a car. You realize 50+ % fault is on your side. The damage can’t be currently estimated (may range from a few hundreds to a few thousands!).

Here are my few thoughts on how an owner of a car would have thought about the responses.

Worst Response: Run away from the situation or get back to the owner aggressively trying to push the fault onto his side.

Good Response: Give away your contact number. Get in touch with the owner about the damages and negotiate on the amount you think you should pay. For time being atleast, the owner would feel secured and relaxed about his car.

Better Response: Roughly estimate the damages and pay the owner an amount leading to a win-win situation then and there. The owner would feel secured about the loses and  needn’t worry much.

Best Response: Take the car to a mechanic then and there and settle the damages. This would surely relieve the tension of the owner to a large extent.

And guess what my response was to this situation. Yes, it was a good one. I gave away my contact number, but then never picked a single unknown call the next day! But, ya don’t feel that bad too ‘coz I feel the damage would have been a few hundreds. Still, morals remain morals. I do feel bad about the tension and stress that the owner may have undergone for atleast a day! And when I think of the enormous ‘big’ curses that he might have showered me with, I again get left out with the thought of cleaning myself!

Tough thoughts, tougher actions indeed!

"Aussie Ki Taissie" — What Say?

5 03 2008

Its finally over! The dust has settled. The champions have been defeated on their own home turf. The sledgers have received a mouthful on and off the field. So, here’s a renovated Indian team coming back with the Commonwealth Bank Series Trophy after a dream come true victorious run down under. Congratulations Team India on this memorable win which is sure to please all Indians and haunt the Aussies for some time atleast!

So, at the end of the series, which has seen many controversies involving Ponting, Hayden, Symonds, Hogg and our own Bhajji, I would like to ideally point out what some of the Aussie players would be taking back home! Here are some mementos that the Aussies should get….

Brad Hogg : With his tongue sticking out throughout the series, he gets a unique trophy for display of this behavior!

                    Hogg

Mathew Hayden : Likes to be rough huh! Ok, well atleast if not on the field, let us help him realize his dream by presenting this gift!

Andrew Symonds : Nothing much more that this photo frame to provide nightmares! ;)

               Symonds

Ricky Ponting : Spared from sharp criticisms owing to his mundane looks and talks after accepting defeat…. But, the series would have surely left out this thought in his mind.

” If Cricket is Religion,

Sachin is a big GOD,

Ponting is a sick ~(GOD)! “

Australia — Cricket World Champions?

7 01 2008

Seeing the way Aussies are surviving defeat in their own land (thanks to umpiring flaws!), I am forced to question their title of being World Champions. India had all the chance in the world of defeating this team if luck had favoured!

Came across this forward which is a very good compilation of thoughts on Cricket as a whole with Australia as its epicentre! These views were formed post India-Australia test match at Sydney recently wherein India had to taste defeat owing to umpiring flaws and age old sledging drama by Australians.

********

After the test match, I feel some rules have to be incorporated by ICC to give the other teams a perfect clarification
(1) Ricky Ponting – (THE TRULY GENUINE CRICKETER OF THE CRICKET ERA AND WHOSE INTEGRITY SHOULD NOT BE DOUBTED) should be considered as the FOURTH UMPIRE. As per the new rules, FOURTH UMPIRE decision is final and will over ride any decisions taken by any other umpires. ON-FIELD umpires can seek the assistance of RICKY PONTING even if he is not on the field. This rule is to be made, so that every team should understand the importance of the FOURTH UMPIRE.
(2) While AUSTRALIAN TEAM is bowling, If the ball flies anywhere close to the AUSTRALIAN FIELDER(WITHIN 5 metre distance), the batsman is to be considered OUT irrelevant of whether the catch was taken cleanly or grassed. Any decision for further clarification should be seeked from the FOURTH UMPIRE. This is made to ensure that the cricket is played with SPORTIVE SPIRIT by all the teams.
(3) While BATTING, AUSTRALIAN players will wait for the ON-FIELD UMPIRE decisions only (even if the catch goes to the FIFTH SLIP as the ball might not have touched the bat). Each AUSTRALIAN batsman has to be out FOUR TIMES (minimum) before he can return to the pavilion. In case of THE CRICKETER WITH INTEGRITY, this can be higher.
(4) UMPIRES should consider a huge bonus if an AUSTRALIAN player scores a century. Any wrong decisions can be ignored as they will be paid huge bonus and will receive the backing of the AUSTRALIAN team and board.
(5) All AUSTRALIAN players are eligible to keep commenting about all players on the field and the OPPONENT TEAM should never comment as they will be spoiling the spirit of the AUSTRALIAN team. Any comments made in any other language are to be considered as RACISM only.
(6) MATCH REFREE decisions will be taken purely on the AUSTRALIAN TEAM advices only. Player views from the other teams decisions will not be considered for hearing. MATCH REFREES are to be given huge bonus if this rule is implemented.
(7) NO VISITING TEAM should plan to win in AUSTRALIA. This is to ensure that the sportive spirit of CRICKET is maintained.
( 8) THE MOST IMPORTANT RULE: If any bowler gets RICKY PONTING - “THE UNDISPUTED CRICKETER WITH INTEGTIRY IN THE GAME OF CRICKET” more than twice in a series, he will be banned for the REST OF THE SERIES. This is to ensure that the best batsman/Captain will be played to break records and create history in the game of CRICKET.
These rules will clarify better to the all the teams VISITING AUSTRALIA.

********

Think Aussies, especially Ricky Ponting might have lost all the respect/admiration he/they used to get after the pathetic display of Cricket! Well not that India played excellent, but Australia didn’t deserve to win for sure. Wonder whether there is some law which could strip them off from this victory……… Anyways, for me this match is the worst I have ever seen from umpiring and a team point of view.

Positive or/and Negative Signs?

7 11 2007

This is a non-technical version of my technical blog on this issue! The issue is me clearing the SCJP exam by narrow margin! And getting pissed with my performance.

There are many other crucial factors other than me not preparing enough for 2/3 topics! It all started with heavy traffic jam with me driving and holding my nerves for the exam simultaneously. It was indeed disturbing! On reaching the prometric center, I came to know that the voucher that I had submitted was not getting registered! Error message popped saying its expired or has already been used! Had to trace back the origin of the voucher from the person (friend) whom I had bought it. Lots of phone calls went here and there which further created a whole lot of chaos! At last, I got the bill number of the voucher and cross checked it at the center. Luckily, the voucher was bought from the same center and on checking the database, was cross verified. And they promised me another coupon. However, I had already got a bit further exhausted by then, spending around half hour breaking my head over this issue! I wondered whether the lady luck is smiling for me (by saving around 7K) or am I being tested for my patience at this crucial stage. Somehow, I had to pump in lot of adrenaline in myself that moment to bring up my energy level and activeness. After all these painful moments, came the real testing moment, the exam, which too, unfortunately seemed against me (as described here!)

But, somehow am relieved that after aggregated study for around 1 months in a period of 2 years, have finally cleared the exam. Will regenerate myself during Diwali Vacations for yet another battle (undisclosed)!

… Twenty20 Critics…

26 09 2007

Writing this blog to showcase some of the opinions/views that were shared during the whole 20-20 World cup.

* “South Africa and Australia are the favorites and we expect them to fight the crucial finals” - The Commentators just before the onset of the matches. However, the sub-continent nations came off in flying colors and succeeded in creating a fear amongst the ’so-called’ bullies of Cricket!

* “Australia will win the the match” - Ravi Shastri’s views on CrickInfo for the crucial India-Australia Semis. However, India showed the talent through their willows and some marvelous tight-lined bowling attack and shut the mouths of the critics! Hats off to India for thrashing SA, Aussies out of the tournament and then as icing on the cake, bringing back the World Cup defeating Pakis!

On the lighter side of the world cup victory, these phrases have been circulating on the mails!

* Abdul Kalam’s vision and dream has come true. “India will become a super power by/in ‘20-20′” :)

* “Misbah thought he hit the ball to a place where no one was present, what he didn’t know is that there is a MALLU in every corner of the world!!”

Well, that was it! Please feel free to add any such comments/views which you feel is worth mentioning.

Also, for more exclusive story of the age-old Indo-Pak rivalry on the Cricket ground, do go through this blog.

…Hutch (now ‘Vodafone’) World Calling Card — Sucks!…

26 09 2007

Utilizing my own blog to share the experience of using the Hutch World Calling card! :) To give the context, I am put up at BTM I Stage, Bangalore. And I use the above mentioned card for STD and ISD calls! Well the experience is pretty bad, sadly!

* Network problem is what I was left stunned with! On using the Calling card its like only after 4-5 attempts, I get connected to the number. And this is not the case with calling directly! I came upon this observation when I tried calling in directly, immediately after unsuccessful attempt through the Calling card. Thrice I experimented with it! :)

* Secondly a minor point, but being of great value in terms of customer service and satisfaction, I found the toll free numbers getting changed and the new toll (won’t term them as ‘free’) numbers getting charged! Well, it does leave the customer with a sense of dissatisfaction in their minds.
